Global market of Processed Food is growing every day. US market alone accounts for around three fourth of global sales of food. Indian market has also contributed in enhancing global sales of food products. The government is planning for various fiscal incentives on these processed products. This particular sector in India is well poised to keep up the growth momentum in near future. The reduced subsidies can add value to the food processing and food production industry of India. This industry in India will offer ample opportunities to the exporters and investors.

Processing of food makes them more attractive to consume. Meats, fish, vegetables and grains are processed properly to make them palatable. Fruits, milk and nuts are processed into various types of products which are beneficial to our health. There are various methods which are used for producing Processed Food. Food items are processed distinctively in every part of the world and this is done to suit the socio-economic and prevailing climatic conditions. Various types of processing methods offer different income sources.

This processing method is generally classified into two broad groups.
  • One is known as the primary processing: During this process the food which is harvested are generally stabilized and sometimes these might be converted into various convenient forms. Some examples include milling cereals, extraction of various cooking oils and drying crops.
  • The other type is the secondary processing where food products and fresh foods from primary processing are converted into different types of Processed Food.

During processing of food and food products irradiation and artificial flavors are used. Various preservatives are also used while preparing these processed products.

According to recent survey, food processing market in Europe will show a steady growth in the next five years. It is estimated that there will be annual growth of 15 percent in the food processing sector of Europe. Demand of bottled water, herbal tea, low fat dairy products and organic food will increase in the next five years.

Government of every country will implement strategies to increase the growth of this industry. They will emphasize on the usage of modern tools and techniques for betterment of processed food products.
